What the hell is going on behind the scenes at defense company ONDS?

Some companies hire managers,
And there are companies that look like someone decided to assemble a team around them that comes directly from the movie 'Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol' – ONDS looks exactly like the latter.
Let's start with the head of the Mossad until a few months ago – David Barnea,
Barnea served in the coveted role of head of the Mossad for five years, after a career of almost 30 years in the organization, and before that – as a commander in Sayeret Matkal – even then, his colleagues from that period said he stood out as a daring and serious fighter.
He finished his last role at the Mossad in June 2026 – and immediately thereafter joined ONDS.
And this is exactly the interesting point...
Why would a person with this background, decades of experience in intelligence and national security, choose to join immediately after finishing the role – an American company with a market cap of less than $5 billion?
To understand this, one needs to look at the people who are already there:
The senior retired general and senior Pentagon official – Patrick Houston
Patrick Houston started at ONDS as a consultant,
Within just a few months, he advanced to a senior position with much broader responsibilities.
On the surface, this might look like just another management appointment...
But when you connect it to the company's human strategy – it becomes much more interesting:
ONDS's advisory board includes an unusual concentration of people who come directly from the security and intelligence echelons of Israel and the US.
On one hand, you will find senior officials from the Mossad, the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Rafael, very senior officers in the IDF, and the Israeli security establishment.
On the other hand, you will see there – senior and colorful American officers from the CIA, the Pentagon, and the US Army.
Meaning – on paper, it's an American defense technology company.
But around the round table – a mix of special knights with interesting tools gathers:
Senior Israeli intelligence officials + senior American intelligence officials + Israeli defense procurement + American defense procurement + Israeli technology...
And this already looks less like a random collection of consultants and more like a network being built around specific security capabilities.
Even the CEO talks about a 'roll-up' strategy and about integrating exceptional technologies across different fields.
The question is what exactly are they trying to build?
We all understand that this is an ecosystem of military autonomy – but the full picture is still classified.
And then Barnea arrives:
And here the story becomes much more interesting,
Barnea joined ONDS after an exceptionally short cooling-off period.
He finished his term as head of the Mossad in June – and joined the company shortly thereafter.
On August 3, exactly the day his joining was announced, ONDS established a new program that allocated up to 20 million shares for grants to 'newly recruited employees'.
A coincidence?
If you connect this to the other appointments, it's hard not to raise an eyebrow – or two:

And this is just a very small partial list of the new Israeli players at ONDS,
ONDS is trying to assemble a management and advisory team around it that comes from the highest levels of the security world – and therefore, these shares might be part of how the company rewards people with exceptional strategic value.
And then comes the number that triggers the red flag
ONDS announced a direct investment offer in the company of $1 billion to a single institutional investor.
One institutional investor – $1 billion.
That's a number that's hard to ignore,
Who is willing to commit to such a scale for a company that is still in the stage of building itself through acquisitions, technologies, appointments, and expansion into security fields?
The people are the story.
One can argue about the technology.
One can argue about the valuation.
But it's hard to argue with one thing:
The profile of the people accumulating around ONDS is very unusual relative to the company's size.
Former head of the Mossad and a host of senior Israeli security officials, senior officials from Rafael, the IDF, the CIA, the Pentagon, and the Ministry of Defense.
And alongside them, very large-scale financial moves – the acquisition of defense companies.
