Forget PlayStation and Xbox in the living room - Tesla is going to turn the taxi ride into your next gaming experience
Elon Musk says that Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox game consoles are going to connect directly to Tesla vehicles.
This is much more than 'just another feature' of the entertainment system,
The move takes on much greater significance when looking at the Cybertruck.
The autonomous vehicle is built around a simple idea: if there's no need for a driver - the time previously dedicated to driving becomes free time.
And this is exactly where Musk's plan comes in:
Removing the steering wheel from the Cybertruck not only frees up physical space in the passenger compartment, it changes the entire perception of the vehicle: from a driver's cabin to a passenger cabin where one can work, watch content, and now also play.
So Musk initially announced a direct Starlink connection to the Cybertruck, meaning that every such vehicle will be equipped with a fast wireless network: a first milestone for introducing productivity into autonomous vehicles.
And now, they are stepping up a level:
If PlayStation and Xbox games operate directly inside the vehicle, Musk is trying to turn travel time into a product in itself.
And this is exactly where the Robotaxi becomes much more interesting than a driverless car.
The business model is no longer limited to 'transporting you from point A to point B' without a driver.
Every minute the passenger spends inside the vehicle can become consumption time: games, movies, content, and digital services.
Tesla becomes an intermediary for the world's largest companies:
Think about it for a moment, companies will start paying Tesla for advertisements, or for integrating their systems into these vehicles to reach the end-user faster...
This is more reminiscent of a small private jet or a moving lounge than a traditional car,
And the market? It is still mainly looking at the number of vehicles Tesla will sell...
But could it be missing part of the story?
If Tesla succeeds in turning the Cybertruck into an autonomous entertainment platform, the value of the vehicle will not be measured only by the metal, the battery, or the number of rides,
It will be measured by how long the passenger stays inside it and how much money can be generated from that time.
The future of the car may not be a bigger screen, but a car where the driver simply disappears, and entertainment takes over.
