Is Iran losing control of the Strait of Hormuz and preparing for war with the UAE?
President Trump recently claimed that the United States now controls the Strait of Hormuz; his claim was rejected by Iran and other parties, who called it propaganda.
But data from the last two weeks indicates there is some truth to Trump's claim: more than 80 percent of ships successfully used the Omani route in the last two weeks with the assistance of the US Navy, a particularly severe blow to Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran may face additional economic problems after the UAE suspended all economic and commercial ties with Iran, following reports of ballistic missile fire on the UAE. Iran denied its involvement, calling it a "false flag operation".
The UAE's move will harm Iran much more than the US Navy's blockade, as Iran imports goods worth more than $21 billion from the UAE, which is one-third of total Iranian imports.
It appears the UAE's move was part of the overarching American strategy to pressure Iran economically instead of opting for military force.
But the concern is that this could spark a war between Iran and the UAE. Iran has already hinted it is preparing for potential preemptive strikes. And we have only one question.
Was it really Iran that sent these two missiles towards the UAE?
