Retail investors took center stage in 2025
Were they right?
Imagine you are standing on a hill watching three rivers that make up the ETF market.
Each flows with different intensity, in a different direction. This is exactly what this chart shows us, but not in water, but in money.
So what exactly do we see here?
The dark blue line represents retail investors (like us, home investors).
And it's not just rising, it's soaring!
From early January to April, retail investors poured more than $120 billion into ETF funds, this is a massive wave of investments, with a sharp acceleration in mid-March.
The light blue line represents professional investors: hedge funds, money managers, etc.
They are actually on a downward trend, and have sold tens of billions since February.
Perhaps they are more cautious...
Or perhaps they are simply afraid of something we don't know?
The red line, thin and consistent, belongs to corporate bond funds. A relatively small and stable flow, but recently, it started to trickle downwards.
What is the message of this chart?
Retail investors entered the market with full force, and they are the ones currently buying the dip.
While professionals are selling, the public is buying, and in a big way.
And what does this mean for the future?
That we are in a fascinating period: it is possible that 'smart money' (professionals) sees risk, but public money is controlling the pace.
Who is right?
Time will tell
But in the meantime, the picture is clear: the public is pressing the pedal.
