Meta again changes the rules of the game – this time through WhatsApp
Meta (Nasdaq: META) is finding a way to turn one of the world's most popular apps into a new cash cow.
And the numbers?
They could amount to no less than $6 billion per year.
Here are the full details from the Morgan Stanley report
Meta is starting to integrate ads into WhatsApp's Updates tab, in the Status section – yes, the same place where you see what your friends did today.
The ads will not appear in your personal chats, but only in the public area – just like Instagram Stories.
The real potential – according to Morgan Stanley:
Revenue of $3–5 billion per year in a base scenario
Over $6 billion per year in a bull scenario – which could boost Meta's revenue forecast by about 3%
How?
Morgan Stanley estimates – about 1.5 billion users access the Updates tab daily.
Time spent in that section accounts for 2%–4% of user time, but has the potential to reach 12%.
If monetization is similar to Facebook or Pinterest – this is a real cash cow.
But wait, it's not that simple
95% of WhatsApp users are outside the US, where advertising prices are lower.
Global monetization is still challenging – but… this is exactly Meta's expertise.
And not just ads…
Meta plans to turn WhatsApp into a comprehensive profit arena:
- Launch of sponsored channels
- Launch of channel subscriptions
- Use of business stores
Meaning: no longer just a messaging app – but a real content and commerce platform.
What's the big message?
Meta is taking its least monetized platform – and gradually turning it into a global advertising empire.
With billions of eyeballs, some of the best advertising infrastructure in the world, and long-term thinking – WhatsApp could become a new revenue bomb that is just now starting to tick.
