BlackRock storms $IREN - increased its position in the company by over 600% in one quarter

Asset management giant BlackRock significantly increased its exposure to IREN, one of the prominent players in the field of energy-intensive AI and data center infrastructure.

According to a new 13F filing submitted on May 13, 2026, BlackRock now holds 4.45 million shares of IREN, valued at approximately $152.8 million as of the end of the first quarter.

In the previous quarter, BlackRock's filing showed a holding of only about 632,000 shares.

This represents a massive jump of approximately 605% in the number of shares within just one quarter.

As of the current stock price, BlackRock's position in $IREN is already worth approximately $252 million.

The company has access to cheap and renewable electricity, extensive land, and cooling and power infrastructure suitable for modern AI loads – a resource that is becoming one of the most sought-after assets in the technology world.

While hyperscalers and AI model developers are looking for new computing capacity, is the stock market beginning to re-price companies that hold ready-to-operate energy infrastructure?

Could BlackRock's move indicate that some institutional investors no longer see $IREN as just a volatile crypto story, but rather an infrastructure platform with high optionality for the HPC and AI worlds?
